The 1786-RPFRXL module is a repeater module that has been designed and manufactured by Allen-Bradley. It is manufactured in the ControlNet line of devices and accessories from Allen-Bradley. The 1786-RPFRXL repeater module is a fiber repeater module that uses fiber cabling for all of its connections. It functions by sending an optical signal to the next fiber repeater module installed in the network through the fiber cable that connects them. This fiber repeater module works with a repeater adapter in the ControlNet system, and this adapter also works with the coax-type repeater modules. The 1786-RPFRXL module draws 570 milliamps of maximum current from the backplane when it operates. Because of this high level of required current draw, no more than two 1786-RPFRXL fiber repeater modules can be connected to the same repeater adapter at a time. The Allen-Bradley ControlNet 1786-RPFRXL fiber repeater module supports the ring network topology, and it is one of the only Allen-Bradley ControlNet repeater modules that is able to do so. The ring topology creates a single ring that contains 2 different data paths and it is well-suited for systems made of single-port devices that require a media redundancy setup. The advantages of the ring topology are that it can endure 2 faults before any data is lost, which makes it easy to troubleshoot before severe machine damage or data loss can occur and up to 5 different repeaters can be connected to 1 adapter in this topology. The 1786-RPFRXL fiber repeater module supports 98 node addresses at a time. It can automatically detect the first message that arrives and automatically disregard the second one in a redundancy setup.
