Woodward Digital Remote Final Drivers accept a 4–20 mA actuator-drive signal proportional to desired valve position, and position a servo assembly accordingly. Integrating or proportional type DRFDs are available depending on the servo assembly being interfaced to. Woodward DRFDs have the capability of driving unipolar or bipolar actuator demand signals, up to 0–400 mA or +400 mA respectively. The Digital Remote Final Driver is housed in a NEMA-4X enclosure with a hinged cover and consists of driver and power supply modules. The driver module uses plug-in jumpers and an alphanumeric display to facilitate field configuration and calibration. Proportional type DRFDs can provide an output drive signal of up to 400 mA, to be compatible with existing servo assemblies. This drive signal is proportional to the 4–20 mA input signal received from the 505 digital control. Integrating type DRFDs sense actual valve position (through, LVDTs, RVDTs, MLDTs, or dc position feedback devices), compare this signal to the input position demand signal from the 505, and output a drive signal to position a servo assembly accordingly.

Discrete I/O module (Output)

PACSystems and the Series 90-70 input modules provide interfaces between controllers and external input devices such as proximity switches, buttons, switches, and BCD thumbwheel. The output module provides interfaces between the controller and external output devices such as contactors, plug-in relays, BCD displays and indicators. GE Fanuc smart devices offer a range of modules that can support different voltage ranges and types, maximum allowable current, isolation and response time to meet the needs of user applications.

I/O modules can be divided into discrete, analog and special modules, which can be mounted on a rail or rack with multiple slots, one of which is inserted into each module. Guide rails or racks have different specifications, and the number of slots is divided into 4, 8, and 12.

Under normal circumstances, the power module is inserted in the first slot, the number is 0, the PLC is inserted in the second slot, and various types of input and output modules are inserted in the remaining slots. A printed circuit board with connectors is installed on the back of the I/O module rail to connect the slots for inserting the I/O module. The upper and lower parts of the slots allow the inserted modules to line up.

Rails with I/O modules and processors are called local I/O rails; A rail with an I/O module, power supply, remote I/O communication card and mounted away from the local I/O rail is called a remote I/O rail. The number of remote I/O rails depends on the number of variables that different processors can control.
