The 3300 XL 25mm sensor system consists of a separate 25mm probe, an extension cable, and a 3300 XL 25mm proximitor sensor. The 0.787 V/mm (20 mV/mil) output gives the system a linear range of 12.7 mm (500 mil). Based on this linear range, the 3300 XL 25mm sensor system is suitable for measuring the differential expansion (DE) of medium to large steam turbine generators caused by the difference in growth rate between the turbine rotor and the machine stator (housing). Measuring Differential Expansion (DE) Differential expansion measurements are made by two proximity sensors observing a ring or ramp at a certain distance from the thrust bearing. Typical sensor installation methods are: • Two sensors observe the same side of the collar. Two complementary input sensors observe the opposite side of a collar, effectively doubling the measureable DE range. Two transducers, at least one of which looks at a slope on the rotor and the second one looks at a separate slope or different locations on the rotor to compensate for radial motion. This arrangement adds some error to the measurement, but can measure a longer total DE distance than complementary measurements. The criteria for selecting the mounting method are the size of the available target, the expected amount of axial movement of the rotor and the type of DE target present in the machine (collar vs. ramp). If there is sufficient collar height, two sensors observing the same side of one collar is the preferred configuration. These two sensors provide redundant measurements.
System compatibility The 3300 XL 25mm probe is available in a variety of chassis configurations to practically replace all the standard 7200 25mm, 7200 35 commands 25mm DE integrated sensor systems (including side and rear outlet probes). The proximitor sensor also has the same output as the 7200 and 25 mm DEIntegral systems, allowing customers to upgrade without changing the monitor configuration. When upgrading from the previous system, each sensor system component (probe, extension cord and proximitor sensor) had to be replaced with a 3300XL 25mm component. Approach probe and extension cable The 3300 XL 25mm probe is designed for maximum survivability in the harshest turbine DE environments. It can operate continuously and maintain its accuracy at high temperatures up to 200°C(392°F), and can withstand intermittent high temperatures up to 250°C(482°F). The 25mm probe has a front and rear seal that, combined with the fluidloc cable (standard on all 25mm probes), prevents moisture from entering the probe tip. Special high temperature ClickLoc connectors are also standard on probes and extension cables. Each probe and cable is equipped with a connector protector and a disposable connector protector installation tool to ensure that the connector remains pollution-free. The ClickLoc connector on the probe lead has a removable collar that allows easy threading of the cable through the tightening gap. The 3300 XL 25mm probe is available in a variety of probe housing styles, including 1¼-12 or 1½-12 inch threads, M30x2 or M39x1.5 meter threads, or side or rear outlet probes with a diameter of 1.06 or 1.50 smooth probe housing. In addition, the threaded 3300 XL 25mm probe comes standard with a lock nut pre-drilled safety wire hole. Proximitor sensor The 3300XL 25 mm Proximitor Sensor (1) has the same advanced features as our previous 3300XL Proximitor sensor. Its thin design allows it to be mounted in high-density din rail mounting or more traditional panel mount configurations. Improved RFI/EMI immunity enables the 3300 XL Proximitor sensor to achieve European CE Mark certification without any special installation considerations. This RF immunity also prevents the transducer system from being adversely affected by nearby high-frequency radio signals. The SpringLoc terminal strip on the Proximitor sensor does not require special installation tools and enables faster, highly robust field wiring connections.
