Description

REC670 is used for the control, protection and monitoring ofdifferent types of bays in power networks. The IED is especiallysuitable for applications in control systems where the IEC61850–8–1 Ed 1 or Ed 2 station bus features of the REC670can be fully utilized. It is used for station-wide interlocking viaGOOSE messages and vertical client-server MMScommunication to a local station or remote SCADA operatorworkplace. This supports the architecture with distributedcontrol IEDs in all bays with high demands on reliability.Redundant communication is obtained through the built-in PRPfeature which can be used in star or ringbus architectures.REC670 can be used on all voltage levels. It is suitable for thecontrol of all apparatuses in any type of switchgeararrangement The control is performed from remote (SCADA/Station) throughthe IEC 61850–8–1 Ed1 or Ed2 station communication or fromthe built-in multi-display local HMI. Cyber security measures areimplemented to secure safe autonomous operation of theprotection and control functions even if simultaneous cyberattacks occur. For all common types of switchgeararrangements, there are different pre-configurations for controland interlocking. One REC670 control IED can be used forsingle bay or multi-bay applications. The control operation isbased on the select-before-execute principle to give highestpossible security. There are synchrocheck functions availableto assist optimal breaker closing at the right instance insynchronous as well as asynchronous networks.

A number of protection functions are available for flexibility inuse for different station types and busbar arrangements.  Tofulfil the user's application requirements, the REC670 features,for example, up to six instantaneous phase and earthovercurrent functions, 4–step directional or non-directionaldelayed-phase and earth overcurrent functions, thermaloverload and frequency functions, two instances of 2–stepunder- and overvoltage functions, autorecloser functions andseveral different measuring functions.  This, together with themulti-display local HMI that can show one or more pages perfeeder allows using the REC670 for protection and control forup to six bays in a substation. The auto-reclose for single-, two-, and/or three-phase recloseincludes priority circuits for multi-breaker arrangements. It cooperates with the synchrocheck function with high-speed ordelayed reclosing. Several breaker failure functions areavailable to provide a breaker failure function independent fromthe protection IEDs, also for a complete one- and a half breakerdiameter. Disturbance recording and fault locator are available to allowindependent post-fault analysis after primary disturbances incase of a failure in the protection system. Duplex communication channels for transfer of up to 192intertrip and binary signals are available on each remote-enddata communication card (LDCM). Typical applications are thecommunication between 670–series IEDs inside the station orwith 670–series in a remote station as remote I/O.

REC670 can be used in applications with the IEC 61850-9-2LEprocess bus with up to six Merging Units (MU). Logic is prepared with a graphical tool. The advanced logiccapability allows special applications such as automaticopening of disconnectors in multi-breaker arrangements,closing of breaker rings, load transfer logics and so on. Thegraphical configuration tool ensures simple and fast testing andcommissioning. Four packages have been defined for following applications: • Single breaker (double or single bus) arrangement (A30) • Bus coupler for double busbar (A31) • Double breaker arrangement (B30) • 1 ½ breaker arrangement for a complete diameter (C30) Optional functions are available in PCM600 ApplicationConfiguration Tool and can be configured by the user. Interfaceto analog and binary IO:s are configurable without need ofconfiguration changes. Analog and control circuits have beenpre-defined. Other signals need to be applied as required foreach application. The main differences between the packagesabove are the interlocking modules and the number ofapparatuses to control.
