The Allen-Bradley 1756-A4 is a ControlLogix Chassis. It is a 4-Slot ControlLogix Chassis with Power dissipation and 1.8 W power consumption. It has dimensions of 50.8 x 50.8 x 20.3 cm (20 x 20 x 8 in.).in and weighs 1.7 lbs. It is horizontally mounted inside the panel and it has an open enclosure. It has a maximum Backplane current of 1.5 A at 1.2 V DC, 4 A at 3.3 V DC, 15 A at 5.1 V DC, and 2.8 A at 24 V DC. The chassis backplane provides a high-speed communication path between modules and distributes power to each of the modules within the chassis. The 1756-A4 Standard Chassis provides easy maintenance with the Removal and Insertion Under Power (RIUP) feature. For preventing replacement errors, it also offers electronic keying. The 1746-A4 is and Allen-Bradley ControlLogix chassis that provides mounting to ControlLogix modules processors, IO modules, communication adapters, specialty module, intelligent, encompass partner and 3rd party modules.
The 1746-A4 features Four (4) slots. Aside from providing module installation slots, this chassis houses the electronic backplane to which backplane power is distributed that powers-up any module attach to individual chassis slot. The chassis also provides the installation means of the system power supply. The system power supply is not included to the slot count as the power supply is installed outside the chassis through the provided power supply interface. Being a Four (4) slot chassis, the minimum rated ControlLogix power supply is capable of powering up the modules attached to it. ControlLogix chassis also supports distributed application. With distributed application, I/O modules may be installed to a chassis remote to the processor. This prevents installation of individual signal cable home runs. With a distributed application, Distributed I/O channels does not have a processor instead, it is installed with a communication adapter along the required ControlLogix modules. Any chassis within the ControlLogix system may be used as distributed I/O chassis including the 1756-A4. Each chassis require an individual system power supply.
