The 1784-PCICS card is an Allen-Bradley card. It is a PCI card which enables ControlNet connectivity on compatible computers. The steps to be followed for the installation of the 1784-PCICS card in a computer are shutting down computer, removing the computer cover, selecting the vacant PCI slot, removing the slot's expansion cover, handling the card so that it is safeguarded against ESD, and finally inserting the card into the slot and tightening the screws. The technology used for the card components is susceptible to ESD damage. Therefore, standard ESD precautions such as the use of static-safe plastic containers, the use of grounded wrist-straps, and working in a static-free area should be followed. After installation, the 1784-PCICS card can be either directly connected to a ControlNet network or to a device which is already connected to a ControlNet network. Different ControlNet networks should not be connected to the 1784-PCICS card because doing so can cause erratic operation for the communication system. Diagnostic status indicators provided on the front of the card provide information about the card and the connected network when the BNC connectors are being used. The status LEDs are meaningless when the 1784-PCICS card connects to ControlNet through the RJ45 network access port. The 1784-PCICS card is compatible with PCI-X slots, with 32-bit and 64-bit PCI slots and with 3.3 Volts/5 Volts PCI slots. The dimensions of the 1784-PCICS card are 107 x 165 millimeters.
