The 3300 XL 8 mm Proximity Transducer System consists of: o One 3300 XL 8 mm probe, o One 3300 XL extension cable1, and o One 3300 XL Proximitor Sensor2. The system provides an output voltage that is directlyproportional to the distance between the probe tip and theobserved conductive surface and can measure both static(position) and dynamic (vibration) values. The system’sprimary applications are vibration and positionmeasurements on fluid-film bearing machines, as well asKeyphasor reference and speed measurements3. The 3300 XL 8 mm system delivers the most advancedperformance in our eddy current proximity transducersystems. The standard 3300 XL 8 mm 5-meter system alsofully complies with the American Petroleum Institute’s (API)670 Standard for mechanical configuration, linear range,accuracy, and temperature stability. All 3300 XL 8 mmproximity transducer systems provide this level ofperformance and support complete interchangeability ofprobes, extension cables, and Proximitor sensors, eliminatingthe need to match or bench calibrate individual components. Each 3300 XL 8 mm Transducer System component isbackward compatible and interchangeable4 with other nonXL 3300 series 5 mm and 8 mm transducer systemcomponents5. This compatibility includes the 3300 5 mmprobe, for applications in which an 8 mm probe is too largefor the available mounting space6,7.
Proximitor Sensor The 3300 XL Proximitor Sensor incorporatesnumerous improvements over previousdesigns. Its physical packaging allows you touse it in high-density DIN-rail installations. Youcan also mount the sensor in a traditionalpanel mount configuration, where it shares anidentical 4-hole mounting “footprint” with olderProximitor Sensor designs. The mounting basefor either option provides electrical isolationand eliminates the need for separate isolatorplates. The 3300 XL Proximitor Sensor is highlyimmune to radio frequency interference,allowing you to install it in fiberglass housingswithout adverse effects from nearby radiofrequency signals. The 3300 XL ProximitorSensor’s improved RFI/EMI immunity satisfiesEuropean CE mark approvals without requiringspecial shielded conduit or metallic housings,resulting in lower installation costs andcomplexity. The 3300 XL’s SpringLoc terminal strips requireno special installation tools and facilitate faster,more robust field wiring connections byeliminating screw-type clamping mechanismsthat can loosen.
