Thyristors are divided into two kinds: unidirectional thyristors and bidirectional thyristors. Bidirectional thyristor is also called TRIAC, or TRIAC for short. The bidirectional thyristor is structurally equivalent to two unidirectional thyristors in reverse connection, and this thyristor has a dual pilot pass function. Its on-off state is determined by the control pole G. Adding a positive pulse (or negative pulse) to the control pole G can make it forward (or reverse) conduction. The advantage of this device is that the control circuit is simple and there is no reverse voltage problem, so it is particularly suitable for AC contactless switch use. The weakness of thyristor: static and dynamic overload capacity is poor; Easily misled by interference. However, if the anode or the control pole is applied with a reverse voltage, the thyristor cannot be switched on. The function of the control pole is to make the thyristor open by applying a forward trigger pulse, but it cannot be turned off. So, what method can be used to make the conducting thyristor shut off? The switched thyristor can be turned off by either disconnecting the anode power supply (switch S in Figure 3) or making the anode current less than the minimum to maintain the conduction (called the maintenance current). If an AC voltage or a fluctuating DC voltage is applied between the anode and cathode of the thyristor, the thyristor will shut itself off when the voltage crosses zero.
