Therefore, a loosening of the lubricating oil pressure will cut off the supply to the governor, which in turn will shut down the engine. The WOODWARD speed switch is an electronic device that senses rotational motion and speed. It receives signals in the form of frequencies from sensor devices (magnetoelectric speed sensors, Mini-Gen® signal generators, alternators, ignition coils). The frequency is then monitored by electronic components within the switch. When the speed or frequency reaches the desired setting or set point, the output relay connected to the control loop is powered on or turned on.

Other commercially available distributed I/O options are also available for existing MicroNetPlus networks (e.g. CANopen, Ethernet, serial communications).
