Honeywell F860-CA - Redundant Fieldbus Power

Description

The F860 is designed to provide redundant power for eightFoundation™ fieldbus H1 segments when used with HoneywellExperion "Series C" Fieldbus Interface Modules (FIMs). The modulecarrier complies with the mechanical and electrical requirementsof 11.6 inch I/O Termination Assemblies (IOTAs), for direct fittinginto Honeywell mounting channel. Power for the fieldbus segmentsis provided by two power modules - F801 or F802 - operatingin a redundant configuration. Failure alarms, galvanic isolation,power conditioning and segment termination are incorporated intoeach F80x module. In simplex applications, a single F80x modulemay be used. Termination of the fieldbus segments is automaticallymaintained when single or redundant F80x modules are fitted. For extreme reliability, the F860 IOTA is passive and only providesinterconnections between the power modules and the externalconnections.The IOTA has two multi-pin connectors, each of which is connectedto a FIM IOTA by means of a standard system cable. Differentlengths are available, to accommodate mounting of the F860 andits respective FIM IOTAs in various locations within a Series C I/Ocabinet. Field wiring is connected at the FIM IOTA.

Each F80x module provides galvanic isolation between the 24VDC input power and the fieldbus segments, as recommended bythe IEC61158-2 fieldbus standard and the Fieldbus Foundation™FF-831 validation test for power conditioners. There is galvanicisolation between the fieldbus segments, thereby preventing segmentfailure in the event of ground faults in the field wiring.Each F80x module has indicator LEDs to show both its status and thatof the eight segments under power. In normal operation, each green'Segment' LED is lit, showing that the segment is powered. If a segmentis shorted, this LED is extinguished, and the red 'Alarm' LED is lit.

An alarm is also triggered by faults inside the F80x modules, or bythe loss of 24V DC power to either module.  In an alarm conditionaffecting any of the 8 segments, both FIM IOTAs are alerted viadedicated signal lines in the interconnecting cables.  Separate digitalinput modules are not needed to detect alarms. A separate F809F physical layer diagnostics module may be installedonto the IOTA, to automatically collect and distribute additionaldiagnostic information on each of the eight fieldbus segments. Power for the IOTA is taken via mounting screws from 24V DCbusbars that are embedded in the Series C mounting channel. Alternatively, for installations in which the internal Series C powersupplies are unable to provide sufficient current capacity, twoindependent external 24V DC supplies (for redundancy) may beconnected to the IOTA via two-part pluggable connectors.  Each F80xpower module is protected by its own replaceable anti-surge fuse, toprovide reliable bulk power.
