The FBM217 Discrete Input Interface Moduleprovides 32 input channels, each accepting a 2-wireinput from a dc voltage source.  Associatedtermination assemblies (TAs) provide for discreteinputs of under 60 V ac, 120 V ac/125 V dc or240 V ac. The module performs signal conversionrequired to interface the electrical input signals fromthe field sensors to the Module Fieldbus. Depending on the type of I/O signal required, the TAscontain current limiting devices, high voltageattenuation circuits, optical isolation and externalpower source connections. The module can be used as a single unit, or as aredundant pair (two FBM217s). When used as aredundant pair, the modules combine to provideredundancy at the Fieldbus Module (FBM) level, withfield input signals received from one commontermination assembly though a redundant adapteraffixed to the FBMs' baseplate. The field input currentfor redundant modules is doubled. A redundantdigital input block in the control software validateseach input in conjunction with information to/from themodule, and selects the input with the highest qualityfor processing in the control strategy.
