Description
The Channel Isolated, Discrete I/O Modules(FBM241/b/c/d) have eight discrete input channelsand eight discrete output channels. Associatedtermination assemblies (TAs) support discrete inputor output signals at voltages of under 60 V dc,120 V ac/125 V dc, or 240 V ac. Depending on the type of I/O signal required, the TAscontain current limiting devices, fuses, relays, or relayoutputs with internal or external power source andfusing. Each type of FBM, without signal conditioning, usesa 15 to 60 V dc input or output signal. Each discreteinput and output is galvanically isolated from otherchannels and ground. When used with externalexcitation, each discrete input and output is groupisolated. The module performs signal conversion required tointerface electrical input signals from field sensors tothe optionally redundant Fieldbus. It executes theDiscrete I/O or Ladder Logic program, with thefollowing configurable options: Input Filter Time, FailSafe Configuration, Fail-Safe Fall-Back, andSustained or Momentary Outputs. If the MomentaryOutput configuration is selected, then Pulse OutputInterval is also configurable.

VISUAL INDICATORS Light-emitting diodes (LEDs) incorporated into thefront of the module provide visual indication of theFieldbus Module operational status, as well as thediscrete states of the individual input and outputpoints. FIELDBUS COMMUNICATION A Fieldbus Communications Module or a ControlProcessor interfaces to the redundant 2 Mbpsmodule Fieldbus used by the FBMs. The FBM241accepts communication from either path (A or B) ofthe redundant 2 Mbps Fieldbus - should one path failor be switched at the system level, the modulecontinues communication over the active path. MODULAR BASEPLATE MOUNTING The module mounts on a DIN rail mountedbaseplate, which accommodates up to four or eightFieldbus Modules. The Modular Baseplate is eitherDIN rail mounted or rack mounted, and includessignal connectors for redundant Module Fieldbus,redundant independent dc power, and terminationcables. TERMINATION ASSEMBLIES Field I/O signals connect to the FBM subsystem viaDIN rail mounted TAs. The TAs used with theFBM241/b/c/d are described in “5 A at up to 120 Vac on page 8.
