Description
The FBM205, 0 to 20 mA I/O Interface (Redundant)contains four redundant 0 to 20 mA dc analog inputchannels and four redundant 0 to 20 mA dc analogoutput channels. The inputs/outputs are galvanicallyisolated from other channels and ground. A redundant pair of the modules combine to provideredundancy at the Fieldbus Module (FBM) level, withfield I/O wired to one common termination assembly(see Figure ). Each module independently attempts tohold the output(s) at its specified output value(s), andeach independently reports its observed value of theinputs. A redundant analog input and redundant analogoutput block in the control software validates eachinput and output in conjunction with informationto/from the module. The FBM205 is electrically compatible with standardHART signals.

REDUNDANT ANALOG INPUTS/OUTPUTS A redundant analog output function block, AOUTR, isused for each redundant pair of outputs. The AOUTRblock handles output writes and initialization logic forthe redundant channels. On each execution cycle ofthe AOUTR block, identical output writes are sent toboth modules, fully exercising the fieldbus and thelogic circuitry of each module. When a failure isdetected in one of the modules, its output is driven to0 mA and the corresponding channel in the goodmodule automatically continues supplying the propercurrent to the output current loop. A redundant analog input function block, AINR, isused for each redundant pair of inputs. The AINRblock handles input reads and initialization logic forthe redundant channels. On each execution cycle ofthe AINR block, identical reads are sent to bothmodules, fully exercising the fieldbus and the logiccircuitry of each module. Each input channel accepts an analog sensor inputsuch as a 4 to 20 mA transmitter or a self-powered 4 to 20 mA source. Each output channel drives anexternal load and produces a 0 to 20 mA output.Transmitter power from each module is diode OR’dtogether in the redundant adapter to ensureredundant power. The microprocessor of eachmodule executes the analog I/O application program,plus security routines that validate the health of theFBM. Input channel options include a configurable choiceof integration time on a per module basis. Inputchannel security is enhanced by redundantlypowering the input current loop from per channelpower supplies in each module of the pair. Configurable options in the modules for outputsecurity include Fail-Safe Action (Hold/Fallback),Analog Output Fail-Safe Fallback Data (on a perchannel basis), Fieldbus Fail-Safe Enable, andFieldbus Fail-Safe Delay Time. The Analog OutputFail-Safe Fallback Data option must be set for 0 mAoutput. This removes one of the pair of redundantoutput channels from service for detectable problemssuch as a module not properly receiving outputwrites or not passing security tests on FBMmicroprocessor writes to output registers. Setting ofthe Analog Output Fail-Safe Fallback Data option for0 mA output also minimizes the possibility of a “failhigh” result.
