Description

The Ethernet controller is also known as the Ethernet adapter, that is, we usually call the "network card", the installation method is inserted in the PCI expansion slot of the machine motherboard, generally white, and then install the driver CD attached to the purchased network card. Ethernet controllers use a specific physical layer and data link layer standard, such as Ethernet or token ring, to implement the circuit system required for communication. This provides the basis for a complete network protocol stack, enabling communication between small groups of computers on the same local area network and wide area networks connected by routing protocols, such as IP. An Ethernet controller is usually equipped with a twisted pair, fiber, BNC, AUI, HomePNA interface, of which the latter three are less common today, fiber is more used for servers. The ENC28J60 is a stand-alone Ethernet controller with a peripheral interface that can be used as an Ethernet interface for any controller equipped with an SPI interface. ENC28J60 complies with all IEEE 802.3 specifications and uses a series of packet filtering mechanisms to restrict incoming data. It also provides an internal DMA module for fast data throughput and hardware-supported IP checksum calculations. Communication between the ENC28J60 and the host controller is achieved through two interrupt pins and the SPI interface, and the data transfer rate is up to 10Mbps. Two dedicated pins are used to connect leds for network activity status indication.
