The Allen-Bradley 1746-IV16 is an SLC 500 discrete input module. This module features Sixteen (16) sourcing input channels, ideally used for interfacing electrical signaling devices such as switches, auxiliary contacts, sensors and other devices that provide binary or ON/ OFF signal states.
The 1746-IV16 supports source wiring configuration. Commonly, input devices carry the signal voltage and sends this voltage towards the input module via sink wiring configuration. In some scenarios, some electrical signaling devices does not carry an input signal voltage. This is when the 1746-IV16 may be used wherein, the module itself provides the signal voltage to the loop then returns this input channels of the module when the device signal state changes.
Each channel of the 1746-IV16 are designed to be operated at a nominal voltage of 24VDC however, accepts voltage range of 10-30 VDC. Additionally, each requires a nominal input current of 8 mA at 24VDC. The maximum on-state input voltage is 5.0 VDC and the maximum off state input current is 1 mA. Each channel exhibits a maximum signal delay time of 8 ms for both ON to OFF and OFF to ON transitions.
The 1746-IV16 is a single slot wide module that directly installs to any available slot of the 1746 chassis. It may be used as a local I/O module or remote I/O module. It comes with a 16 LED status indicators, each assigned to monitor the state of the input channels. It also comes pre-installed with a removable terminal block that allows modular wiring and simplified module replacement in the event of module malfunction.
The 1746-IV16 has a maximum off-state current and voltage of 1 mA and 5 Volts DC. It has a nominal input current of 8 mA at 24 Volts DC and a maximum power dissipation of 3.6 Watts. It finds applications in general-purpose DC inputs in an SLC 500 system. The 1746-IV16 module is responsible for receiving and storing digitally-converted analog data into its data image table to be retrieved by all the modular and fixed SLC 500 processors. It supports connections from up to 8 sensors or actuators for various applications. The 1746-IV16 module comes with removable terminal blocks, eliminating the need to disconnect any of the wires and making module replacement easy. It also includes filter circuitry and optical coupling for signal noise reduction. The 1746-IV16 module input values can be easily accessed by SLC 500 processors that use Ladder Logic programming. Troubleshooting becomes easier with LED indicators that show input status ratings. The SLC 500 system uses a sharing-based hardware platform which includes various combinations of digital and analog I/O, thus saving cost and space. The 1746-IV16 is intended for use in an environment with a 0 to 60 degrees Celsius (32 to 140 degrees Fahrenheit) temperature range and a 5 to 95% noncondensing relative humidity range.
