Analog Input/Digital InputModule The Analog Input/Digital Input Modulehas 16 digital input points (points 1–16)and 16 analog input points (points 17–32). The AI/DI Module has three isolatedsets of electronics, called channels,which independently process field datainput to the module. Sensing of eachinput point is performed in a mannerthat prevents a single failure on onechannel from affecting another channel. For analog input points, each channelreceives variable voltage signals fromeach point, converts them to digitalvalues, and transmits the values to thethree MPs on demand. For digital input points, an ASIC oneach channel scans each input point,compiles data, and transmits it to theMPs upon demand. For all points, the MPs vote the databefore passing it to the control program.In TMR mode, the data passed is midvalue. In dual mode, the data passed isthe average. AI/DI Modules sustain complete,ongoing diagnostics for each channel. Ifthe diagnostics detect a failure on anychannel, the Fault indicator turns on andactivates the system alarm. The Faultindicator identifies a channel fault, not acomplete module failure. AI/DI Modulesare guaranteed to operate properly in thepresence of a single fault and maycontinue to operate properly withmultiple faults. Analog Input/Digital Input Modulesinclude the hot-spare feature whichallows online replacement of a faultymodule. The AI/DI Module is mechanically keyed to prevent improper installation in a configured baseplate. The Model 3361 AI/DI Module iscompatible with the Model 2361 AI/DIBaseplate and the AI/DI External Termination Baseplate.
Analog Output Modules
Each TMR Analog Output Module hasthree isolated sets of electronics, calledchannels, which independently acceptdata from the MP associated with eachchannel. The channels provide input tovoter circuitry to select a single channelto drive the output. Special circuitry isused to ensure that the channels that arenot driving the output are shunted so theycannot affect the output.
AO Modules include complete, ongoingdiagnostics for each channel. If the diagnostics detect a failure on any channel,the Fault indicator turns on and activatesthe system alarm. The Fault indicatoridentifies a channel fault, not a completemodule failure. AO Modules are guaranteed to operate properly in the presence of a single fault and may continue tooperate properly with multiple faults.
AO Modules support a hot-sparemodule. Each AO Module is mechanically keyed to prevent improper installation in a configured baseplate.
The Model 3481 AO Module can beused with these baseplates:
• Model 2481, which is used in typicalapplications.
• Model 2483, which enablescommunication between HARTfield devices and Configuration andAsset Management Softwarerunning on a PC.
• Model 2483A, which is used inhazardous locations and enablescommunication between HARTfield devices and Configuration andAsset Management Softwarerunning on a PC.
• DO External Termination Baseplate,which is used with the Model 9863-610 External Termination Panel inhazardous locations. Note that “DO”is not a typo, the DO ExternalTermination Baseplate is used withthe 9863-610.
