RET670 – optimized for transmission applications RET670 IEDs provide customized or pre-configured protection solutions for any type of transformer and shunt reactor application. The customized RET670 gives you the freedom to select functionality entirely according to your needs. The pre-configured RET670 variants simplify handling since the basic functionality is included and pre-configured. If needed, you can add optional functions to increase the functionality of the pre-configured RET670 IEDs to meet the specific requirements of your transformer or shunt reactor. The extremely fast differential protection function with automatic CT ratio matching and vector group compensation, makes RET670 the ideal solution for the most demanding applications. Furthermore, one RET670 IED can be extended to contain two differential protection functions to protect the most advanced system configurations. This transformer protection IED is designed to operate correctly over a wide frequency range in order to accommodate power system frequency variations during disturbances and generator start-up and shut-down. It has very low requirements on the main CTs, and no interposing CTs are required. RET670 features also several functions for local and remote apparatus control on all sides of the transformer. Secure bay and station wide interlocking allows you to avoid dangerous or damaging switchgear operations and to ensure personnel safety. RET670 provides fast and selective protection, monitoring andcontrol for two- and three-winding transformers,autotransformers, generator-transformer units, phase shiftingtransformers, special railway transformers and shunt reactors.The transformer IED is designed to operate correctly over awide frequency range in order to accommodate power systemfrequency variations during disturbances and generator start-upand shut-down. A very fast differential protection function with settable CT ratiomatching and phase shift compensation makes this IED theideal solution even for the most demanding applications. SinceRET670 has very low requirements on the main CTs, nointerposing CTs are required.It is suitable for differentialapplications with multi-breaker arrangements with up to sixrestraint CT inputs. The differential protection function isprovided with 2nd harmonic and wave-block restraint featuresto avoid tripping for magnetizing inrush current, and 5thharmonic restraint to avoid tripping for overexcitation. The differential function offers a high sensitivity for low-levelinternal faults. The unique and innovative sensitive differentialprotection feature of the RET670 provides the best possiblecoverage for winding internal turn-to-turn faults, based on thetheory of symmetrical components . A low impedance restricted ground-fault protection function isavailable as a complimentary sensitive and fast main protectionagainst winding ground faults. This function includes adirectional zero-sequence current criterion for additionalsecurity.

Additionally a high impedance differential function is available. Itcan be used as restricted ground fault or, as three functions areincluded, also as differential protection on autotransformers, asdifferential protection for a tertiary connected reactor, as Tdifferential protection for the transformer feeder in a meshcorner or ring arrangement, as tertiary bus protection and so on. Tripping from pressure relief/Buchholz and temperature devicescan be done through the transformer IED where pulsing, lockout contact output and so on, is performed. The binary inputsare heavily stabilized against disturbance to prevent incorrectoperations at for example dc system capacitive discharges orDC ground faults. The binary inputs are heavily stabilized against disturbances toprevent incorrect operations during for example during DCsystem capacitive discharges or DC ground faults. Distance protection functionality for phase-to-phase and/orphase-to-ground faults is available as back-up protection forfaults within the transformer and in the connected powersystem. Versatile phase, ground, positive, negative and zero sequenceovercurrent functions, which can optionally be made directionaland/or voltage controlled, provide further alternative backupprotection. Thermal overload with two time-constants, volts perhertz, over/under voltage and over/under frequency protectionfunctions are also available.
